How do you actually tell if a recycling center is fair before showing up?

I have been collecting CRV bottles and cans for a while and want to bring them in somewhere reliable. The thing is, I have heard mixed stories about weighing and refund rates. How do you usually verify that a recycling spot is legit and not going to short you on the count?

From my own observations, the basics are pretty consistent across honest places. They take clear, green and brown CRV glass bottles, wine and liquor included, as long as nothing is broken, and aluminum cans either whole or crushed without making a fuss about prep work. What I usually check before driving over is whether the place lists what they accept openly and whether the refund terms are written down somewhere I can read calmly at home. For example, one local option I was looking into has all this on their page, you can view it here including a note about a small Tuesday bonus on aluminum of about ten cents extra per pound.

Beyond that, I pay attention to small things, like whether the scale is visible during weighing and whether staff actually answer questions without rushing you. Those usually say more than any rating online.
