Testing a VA with a small task
Thinking about hiring a virtual assistant to handle some of the repetitive admin work that takes up too much time, but not sure if it is worth it or if explaining everything will just end up taking longer than doing it myself, so wondering if anyone here has tried those small five to twenty dollar tasks to test out a VA before committing to regular hours, and did that small test actually tell you enough about whether the person was reliable and worth keeping around for bigger projects?

Tried a few of those small VA gigs and they were actually useful for figuring out if someone was worth hiring long term. For a few bucks, I gave them a simple task like organizing a spreadsheet or cleaning up email inboxes. The ones who asked good questions and delivered clean work were the ones I kept for bigger projects. The ones who did the bare minimum or needed constant hand holding were easy to spot. Starting with affordable virtual assistant tasks lets you see how they communicate and follow instructions without spending a lot upfront. Definitely worth trying as a screening tool.
